Take the plunge for Sport Relief - entry is half price til the end of January

Penlan Leisure Centre will be making a splash for charity this spring as they join Swimathon 2012 challenge.

You can choose to join the 5k, 2.5k or Team 5k challenges for Marie Curie Cancer Care, or take part in the ‘Big Splash Mile’ raising funds for Sport Relief.  

The challenges at Penlan Leisure Centre will start at 2.00pm on Saturday 28 April and at 12.00 noon on Sunday 29 April. 

You can sign up for the challenges at www.swimathon.org - entry is half price until the end of January.

 

Catch all the 6 Nations rugby action on Swansea’s Big Screen

If you enjoyed Wales' efforts in the Rugby World Cup you will probably be eagerly awaiting this year's RBS 6 Nations.

The tournament kicks off on 4 February and you can watch all the action on Swansea's Big Screen in Castle Square.

The screen will be showing all Wales’ matches live along with all the other games except France v Ireland. 

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery offsite activity continues with talk on Vetch Veg

Offsite activities organised by the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery continue this Friday at 1pm in the YMCA Swansea. Join artist Owen Griffiths as he discusses his ongoing allotment project ‘Vetch Veg’.

Since September, Owen has been working with local people to maintain a community run vegetable garden. The garden has been very positive for the local area and over 100 raised beds have been built, with plans to keep chicken and bees at the historic site.

Make a wish on the 'Peace Rock' in Swansea's Singleton Botanical Gardens

A Bluestone chosen from the Preseli Hills is on display at Singleton Botanical Gardens for visitors to touch the stone and make a wish before it moves on to its next location. 

The rock represents Britain and will travel to The International Peace Garden on the border between USA and Canada as a mark of friendship between our nations.

Explore the link between South Wales and the Jewish refugees of World War 2 at new Archives exhibition

The story of Jewish refugees who came to live in South Wales during the turbulent years before the Second World War will be told in a new exhibition at Swansea Civic Centre.

'Jewish Refugees in South Wales, 1933 -1945', an exhibition by West Glamorgan Archive Service, explores the emotional accounts of the Jewish adults and children who found sanctuary in South Wales after escaping the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Europe and the subsequent contribution they had on the economy and local culture.

The exhibition will be situated in the foyer of Swansea Civic Centre from 10 January to 5 February and is taking place in conjunction with commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, held every year in the UK on 27 January.
