If the Olympic Torch isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there is plenty more to do in Swansea this weekend

If you fancy a nice relaxed evening, Heat Poets is on at the Dylan Thomas Centre where there’ll be poetry and music with Chris Torrance and Chris Vine tonight at 7.30pm.

Plantasia is offering half price entry for children this weekend, so why not explore the hothouse which is filled with wonderful plants and animals including monkeys and a macaw?  You may even get a chance to feed the Koi carp!

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is bringing the heat of the Spanish summer to Brangwyn Hall this Saturday, when the Orchestra will be led by François-Xavier Roth.

On Sunday, sit back in Clyne Gardens and enjoy the band while the children listen to a story and take part in activities – all part of Clyne in Bloom.

The Olympic Torch is in Wales and making its way to Swansea tomorrow!

The Olympic Torch Relay makes its way through Swansea this Saturday and Sunday. It starts its journey by crossing the Sail Bridge at around 5.45pm and travels through Swansea making its way to Singleton Park for the Sports village and evening celebrations.

On Sunday the Torch will make its way through Mumbles from Bracelet Bay car park at approximately 06:56am to Carmarthen Road (A483) for about 08:51am.

Everyone can get involved in welcoming the Flame to Swansea. You can line the route and cheer the Torch as the Torchbearers carry it through the city or join in the celebrations at Castle Square and watch it all live on Swansea’s London 2012 Live Site.

Whatever you decided to do it’s going to be warm out, so don’t forget to put on your sunscreen and bring plenty of refreshments.

Please note, tickets are sold out for the sports village and evening event in Singleton Park and there will not be tickets on the gate.

Remember the Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Swansea this weekend, don’t get caught out by road closures and disruptions

There will be a great atmosphere in Swansea this weekend as the crowds welcome the Olympic Flame to Swansea. The Flame will be welcomed into the city as it makes its way across the Sail Bridge at approximately 17.45pm and through the city to Singleton Park.

To celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay people can line the route and join in on celebrations at Castle Square from 2.00pm.

If you miss the torch on Saturday, don't worry as the Olympic Torch Relay continues its journey through Mumbles on Sunday at 7.00am before leaving the city at around 08:45am.

Missed out on free tickets for the celebrations in Singleton Park this Saturday? Don’t worry, head down to Castle Square where there will be lots of fun and activities going on

A human javelin statue and the Belooshie Blues Brother Tribute are among the fun in the build-up to the arrival of the Olympic Torch at Swansea's London 2012 Live Site at Castle Square on Saturday 26 May.

The fun filled day will have an array of entertainment with a great line up of live acts on stage from 2pm including Craig Gallivan, who played Callum in hit ITV programme Footballers' Wives, Samba Tawe and the Loughor Town Band.

There will be street entertainment in Castle Square and on Oxford Street, with a silent clown, stilt walker, statues and balloon artistes.

And don’t worry, you won’t miss out on seeing the Olympic Flame, Torchbearers will start carrying the Flame at Langdon Road at about 5.45pm before it travels over the Sail Bridge and on to Princess Way and Castle Square, where it will stop for photographs at about 6pm.

All in all it promises to be a great day out, so why not celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay in Swansea and Be Part of it!

Swansea Museum presents Future Shorts as part of Museums at Night. Future Shorts is the world’s biggest pop up film festival. They will be showing seven award winning films from 5:30pm this Saturday 19 May.

Alan Bennett's play Green Forms is at the Dylan Thomas Centre on Saturday 19 May, 1:00pm, in which officer workers Doris and Doreen, in the days before computers have turned work-avoidance into an art form, but times must inevitably change.

Catch La Boheme live from the Royal Opera House beamed to Castle Square tonight, 7.20pm

Come down to Castle Square tonight (17 May 2012) to watch La Boheme broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in London.

Relax in a deckchair, feast on a picnic supper and enjoy the wonderful strains of Puccini's masterpiece which starts at 7.20pm.

There'll also be live music in Castle Square from 6.30pm and during the interval performed by Pres Morganwg who are happy to play anything upon request.

Looking for events in Swansea this weekend?

There's some great events taking place in Swansea this weekend.

On Saturday, the Dylan Thomas Centre hosts Under Milk Wood Day. This is the first of what will be an annual event and includes displays, recordings, films, and the premier of a new play, Love the Words.

Try some of the best Welsh cheese and cider that Wales has to offer at the Gower Heritage Centre on Saturday and Sunday. There will be live music from Sicknote Steve, Josh Ace, Ian James, Ian O Flynn, Up The Creek and Thistledown, plus a bar, BBQ, cider press demos and lots more.

 

The Olympic Torch is being lit tomorrow in Athens - watch on the Big Screen from 9.00am
